Meet
the IBMT physicians
Drs Luke Akard,
Michael Dugan, Jan Jansen and Jim Thompson
have over 50 years of transplant experience
combined, and have conducted extensive
research in the field.

Luke
Akard, MD, FACP,
is an Indiana native who was trained in
hematology / medical oncology and previously
held professorships at Indiana University
Medical Center. His major field of interest
is stem cell biology and transplantation
for breast carcinoma. He serves as the Director
of Apheresis for IBMT.
Michael
Dugan, MD,
is also an Indiana native who performed
his fellowship in hematology / oncology
at the University of Minnesota with emphasis
on bone marrow transplantation. He joined
the group in 1995 with an interest in
cord blood and ex-vivo stem cell expansions.
He heads the Quality Assurance / Management
efforts for IBMT.

Jan
Jansen, MD, PhD,
is an immunologist / hematologist trained
in Leiden, The Netherlands and has dedicated
his professional life to marrow transplantation
since 1976. He is extensively published
and was the founder and director of a
nearby university bone marrow transplant
program until 1989. He serves as the Director
of the Stem Cell Laboratory for IBMT.
Dr.
James Thompson, DO, FACP,
joined IBMT in 1993 following his retirement
from the US Air Force in San Antonio where
he directed the bone marrow transplant
program for the Department of Defense.
He was trained at Stanford and has interests
in the lymphomas and Hodgkin's disease.
Dr. Thompson is the Director of Clinical
Operations for IBMT.
